The key brief for this kitchen in Padstow was to create a highly usable sociable space and to make the most of the views from its second-storey position.
This was achieved by incorporating the dining area into the kitchen’s island unit. We wanted to define the dining area, so we made this slightly lower and used a thicker work surface to add a distinction. Underneath, we combined slatted oak to add texture and link other aspects of the kitchen design, such as the oak cupboard doors above the sink area.
The main island has plenty of space to prepare and cook; to one side, there is additional sitting space for guests at the bar height.
We chose Little Greene Slaked Lime for the door furniture colour and combined this with Caesarstone Riverlet for the work surfaces. In addition, we used natural oak doors to add a natural tone to the overall effect and tie in the island unit. Metallic gold apex rails add a little sparkle to the design.
Behind the sink, there’s a satin-etched copper glass splashback, which, combined with the black Quooker tap and the Blanco Sublime rock grey sink, adds a significant focal point and colour ‘pop’ to the kitchen.
Two full-sized Miele ovens and a Miele combination Microwave and Miele Coffee system make this kitchen a perfect place to entertain. There’s also a suite of Fisher & Paykel refrigeration, including a wine conditioner. Adjacent to this is a pocket door zone with contrasting interior features, which adds a secondary space for food preparation.
After completing the kitchen and utility, our client also asked us to complete furniture in the entrance hallway, living area, games room, bedrooms – and a separate main bedroom walk-in wardrobe.
